While visiting Washington, DC in October, Irene met with Thomas Mirenda and Carol Allen to discuss orchid cutivation in prepartion for her presentation to the Western North Carolina Orchid Society. Tom is the orchid collection specialist at the Smithsonian Institution and an a accredited AOS judge. Carol is a Horticultural Specialist at the U.S. Botanical Gardens.
An Orchid Connection arrangement was one of several items auctioned at the September 10th “Fur Ball” held at Decades Restaurant & Bar. The Ball – a Party for Pets – was organized as a fund raiser by Asheville Affilates for the benefit of Brother Wolf Animal Rescue. Brother Wolf is composed of a group of animal advocates whose mission is to work towards the end of euthanasia of healthy, adoptable animals as a means of population control in our community.
